Join Us for GCEA’s School Safety Blackout:
“One of the foundational principles of public education for both students and staff is the assurance of safety within the school environment. This sense of security is essential; without it, students struggle to reach their full potential, and teachers find it challenging to fully realize their effectiveness. We must come together to guarantee that Garrett County Public Schools offer a secure working and learning environment for all.”
-Heather Gosnell, President GCEA and Garrett County teacher
School Safety CALL TO ACTION: In response to increasing concerns about school safety from members of GCEA, as well as from parents and students of GCPS, the GCEA is initiating a CALL TO ACTION. This initiative encourages teachers to report every injury or incident occurring within the confines of school premises through the designated channels provided below. It is crucial to report all injuries, no matter how minor they may appear, to ensure GCPS is fully informed about any situations that may compromise the safety of its staff members. By fostering a culture of transparency and prompt reporting of injuries/incidents, the GCEA aims to strengthen its advocacy efforts significantly.
Documenting Injuries:
GCEA emphasizes the importance of maintaining a secure working and learning environment in Garrett County schools for both students and staff. It’s crucial for teachers and Educational Support Professionals (ESPs) to record any incidents or injuries at work through the designated channels. An injury is defined as any physical pain or harm resulting from an incident in the workplace. Even minor injuries, which might seem trivial and unworthy of reporting, are important to document. We urge all members to report EVERY injury that occurs in GCPS schools, no matter how small. This is essential for collecting and assessing accurate data about school safety. Through consistent reporting of all injuries, GCEA can gather precise information to bolster our advocacy efforts.
Telling your story:
If you’ve been injured at work, GCEA wants to know your story. By sharing, you can empower other teachers and ESPs to speak up and help GCEA build a culture where injury reporting is standard whenever an injury occurs. The form below is for member’s records and is not part of the injury reporting procedure outlined above. It’s simply a way for members to record injury details and keep that information organized and accessible. After completing the form, it will be forwarded to the email address provided when filling it out. This information WILL NOT be shared with GCEA or GCPS unless requested by the injured member.
